Request for Proposals
The Value Demonstrating Initiative (VDI) on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an innovative approach to improve care for people with COPD by ensuring they have the recommended care they need which includes smoking cessation, vaccinations, the right medications, exercise, and education.
It focuses on optimizing COPD care in the community, and will be independently evaluated to determine if it improves patient outcomes and the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system. A key objective of the initiative is to create a model that is feasible, scalable, and sustainable beyond the initial demonstration period.
It is being pursued through a collaborative effort involving the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Rx&D (Canada’s Research Based Pharmaceutical Companies) and the Ontario Lung Association (OLA). These stakeholders are working together to translate existing knowledge and evidence into practice, incorporating quality improvement principles.
