Shortage of Vital Asthma Medication Concerns The Lung Association

Mar 03, 2016

Due to the current shortage of Ventolin® inhalers The Lung Association would like to make our patients and their caregivers aware of the following information.

Ventolin® is prescribed to many of Ontario’s two million asthma patients to relieve their symptoms and is often used in an emergency such as an asthma attack. There are several generic versions of this medication that work well for many people. However, for others, the generic is not as effective.

Patients who have had problems with generic versions of the drug can ask their pharmacy to call GSK Customer Service – 1-800-387-7374 – to request an urgent delivery of Ventolin®.

In a statement released today, GSK Canada said it is experiencing “a temporary interruption” of Ventolin® supply but expects to have enough medication for Canadian patients by mid-March.

If you have questions about your asthma medication, or any other lung health issue, call the Lung Health Information Line at 1-888-344-LUNG (5864) to speak to a Certified Respiratory Educator.
