Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a “collaborative, person-centered form of guiding to elicit and strengthen motivation for change” (Miller and Rollnick, 2009). For people seeking help with their behaviour change, the most common obstacles are ambivalence (uncertainty) and the fear of change. MI helps overcome these barriers, helping to comfortably moving people through the process of behaviour change.
The Lung Association – Ontario offers free MI workshops to health-care providers, fitness trainers and others who provide consultation to clients on encouraging behaviour change. It addresses the foundation skills and underlying philosophy of MI using case-based learning, hands-on practice and take-away tools.
Workshops are available as a half day and full day and refreshments are provided.
