Cockroaches

Cockroach allergens

Cockroaches contain a protein that is an allergen for many people. The body parts, saliva and waste of cockroaches are allergens. Even dead cockroaches can cause allergic reactions.

Cockroaches thrive in damp areas where food waste has not been removed, such as in kitchens.

How to reduce exposure to cockroach allergens

  • Wash dishes and clean up all food and drinks right after every meal
  • Store garbage in sealed containers and remove it regularly from all areas of the home
  • Seal openings around cabinets where insects can enter
  • Employ professional pest control services if needed
