In Ontario, 185,000 children and teens will start smoking because of their exposure to onscreen smoking. The research is clear, the more kids see smoking in movies, the more likely they are to start. Despite this fact, 86 per cent of movies that show tobacco are rated for a young audience. The Ontario Coalition for Smoke Free Movies is a group of organizations, including The Lung Association, which aims to raise awareness about this issue and get smoking out of movies rated for kids.
